Pub Trip

The judges are still recovering from the excitement that was CUSH 2014. To aid this difficult recovery process, and to try and fill the hole that they now find in their lives, the traditional post-hunt pub trip will take place on Sunday evening (the 15th of June) in the Fort St George on Midsummer Common in The Old Spring on Chesterton Road, as the Fort is mysteriously closing early this evening. The judges will be there from 1930 for the duration of the evening, and everyone who entered a team, helped a team or simply enthusiastically followed the ensuing chaos is welcome to join us.

If you would like to join us, try to let us know via Twitter or email (adr34) so we can book an appropriately sized table if necessary. Even if you don’t join us for the pub, make sure you enjoy May Week and all the associated pleasures it brings.

CUSH 2014 Results

The results are in (to two decimal places – using logs to score some items is fun!)

PCaRCHs 680.98
Shersoc 668.50
You’ll Never Beat The Irish 492.66
St Catharine’s College Mariachi Band 405.84
Crazy Scientists 317.04
??? 266.49
Hoping not to be alone forever 138.00
FBM 5.12
Communist Citchen 0
Rainbow is the New Black 0

It became clear at some point this afternoon that we were witnessing a two-horse race, but neither team was able to pull appreciably ahead despite each of them bringing an enormous quantity of items. It could have easily gone either way, and we scoured the spreadsheet during the post-hunt judging for any missing points for either team. Congratulations to the PCaRCHs, and our hearts go out to Shersoc for coming so close.

The judges have enjoyed this hunt immensely, and were consistently impressed by the items everyone was bringing to be judged. We’ve mentioned some of our highlights from each team below.

Communist Citchen: For being the keenest team pre-hunt, and arguably the least keen during the hunt.

The St. Catharine’s College Mariachi Band: For being cross-dressed far longer than the item required, and for getting LITERALLY COLIN MOCHRIE to tweet about CUSH.

Crazy Scientists: Impressive memories and admirable commitment to the physical challenges in the face of intimidating opponents and severe cynicism on our part.

Hoping not to be alone forever: Props for not being alone forever! And a fine performance given that you were only competing for one day. Their disobeying-a-sign-photo was also enjoyably meta.

FBM: For having the smallest non-zero points total at the end!

PCaRchs: The trailer for next year’s hunt brought a smile to the Judge’s faces start to end. Competing even though you were in bumps was very impressive, and it was clear that you were burning the midnight oil from the number of videos the judges woke up to.

You’ll Never Beat The Irish: The effects of a pangalactic gargleblaster, and literally obtaining the actual plans for a local bank. One of the judges was also delighted to meet someone even more knowledgeable of Animaniacs’ musical repertoire than he was!

Shersoc: The Emperor’s New Clothes, and what it almost cost you. Space T-Rex was beyond the judge’s wildest dreams, as was Hood, their incredible Batman villain. Their regular delivery of items kept the judges entertained throughout the hunt.

The Team Latterly Known as ??????: A felt lined case packed full of goodies and wearing more clothes than anyone else. Their watermelon was also a masterpiece combining equinology with the Doctor’s oldest and deadliest enemy.

Rainbow is the New Black: For raising the judges’s hopes that we’d see you again, and then dashing them against the rocks :-(

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who competed over the last two days and for making this an unforgettable scavenger hunt for us to both run and judge. We are organising a pub trip for Sunday night for everyone to meet in a non-competitive setting (or a least not one controlled by the judges). Keep your eyes peeled here and on Twitter for details…

Hugs and kisses,

The AP Allstars

Doors closed!

It’s after nine, so the doors are closed! The judges will retire to their chambers now, and announce the results later tonight.

Day two!

It’s time to do it all over again today! Hoping to see lots more impressive items today. We’re back in the GU until at least 5, whereupon we will likely move again for the home stretch. Keep an eye on Twitter! The Judges would also like to mention some things to bear in mind as we enter our second day.

  • We won’t allow you to try any of the ‘Beat the Judges’ section after 17:00, to make sure we have enough judges for judging actual items during the inevitably hectic final few hours. So if you want to compete, make sure you do before then!
  • As you try to eke out as many points as you can, remember there is a 20% bonus for any section you complete.
  • Sticker locations (see Twitter!) are worth three points each, and will count as their own section for getting the 20% bonus.
  • Please don’t remove the stickers when you find them – simply take a photo and send it to us or show us.
  • Reports of stickers going missing were true. We have confirmed all stickers exist as of 9:00 this morning, having replaced them where necessary.

There will also be a clandestine meet later this evening for those who are keen. If you are interested, meet us at the Round Church at 11PM this evening. We suggest you wear comfortable shoes!

Cambridge University Scavenger Hunt 2014

Time passes so quickly in Cambridge. It’s time to once again prepare for a memorable 36 hours (described by one participant as ‘the most fun I’ve ever had sober’), where you will scavenge for items, do silly activities you never thought you’d find yourself doing, and generally enjoy yourselves in the Cambridge sun.

This year, CUSH 2014 will be running from 9AM on Wednesday 11th June until 9PM on Thursday 12th June.

As usual, teams can be made up of up to five people. To register in advance, send an email to adr34 with your team name, the name of the members of your team and, ideally, a team photo. The list of items will be handed out in person in front of Great St. Mary’s at 9AM on Wednesday, where you will also be able to register on the day. The list will be posted online shortly thereafter for any teams unable to be there in person.

As is tradition, last year’s (narrow) winners, the AP Allstars, are in charge this year. They’ve been preparing all year, and are thoroughly looking forward to being impressed by you all!

And we are off!

The list is online and the teams are off!

We are just about to relocate to the Granta and can’t wait to see you there!

If you didn’t receive the paper copy this morning don’t worry you can still join in!

Starting tomorrow!

We’re nearly set to start! Here’s how things should unfold:

Wednesday:

9.00 a.m.: We’ll be outside Great St Mary’s with printed copies of the list for anyone who turns up with an interesting hat (Points to the team with the most interesting hat!). It might be worth your while getting a paper copy!

10.00 a.m.: The list goes up online. We’ll post it here and it’ll go on the sidebar.

11.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.: We’ll be in the The Granta by the door, sitting tight and waiting to be brought your excellent items.

Thursday:

11.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.: We’ll be in The Granta for the second day to be wowed and delighted by your finds.

9.00 p.m.: Doors close. If you’re in the room by 9, we’ll judge your stuff, but not if you’re late!

approx. 9.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.: Results! Depending on how long final judging takes, we’ll publish the results on the blog, twitter etc as soon as possible and tell anyone who’s stuck around in person.

Some stuff to bear in mind:

  • Completing any whole section of the list will net a 20% bonus on that section’s points
  • You should bring stuff as often as you can! Leaving it all until the end makes for busy busy rooms and bored judges!
  • Points on the list are the approximate maximum for that item — great attempts will get the maximum points, merely mediocre will still get some points. Going above and beyond the call of duty is likely to net you bonus points.
  • Be sure to check the Twitter feed (@CUSH_2012)! Who knows what we’ll post?
  • Unless you ask us not to, we’ll probably post your exciting/entertaining photos and videos, and may photograph items and post them too. They’ll end up on the website or Twitter.
  • We’ll have computers with us, so please bring digital items on USB sticks if you can!
  • Any questions, email or tweet us

See you all tomorrow morning and best of luck!
