It Is The End…

…but the moment has been prepared for.

It has been a hugely entertaining couple of days. All the way through Saturday, Xe Leptfromcoma and Lavender Scavengers brought us item after item, entertaining us and pushing against each other and beating Emily at chess. It looked like a two-horse race, but come Sunday Not Enough Books appeared with over 450 points\’ worth of items, pushing into first place. As we entered the closing hours of the Hunt, the difference between the three teams was less than ten points, with Not Enough Books just barely in the lead… But a last-minute push from Souradip, LavScav\’s last standing member, brought them into first place, and a final tally confirmed them as the winners.

Lavender Scavengers: 523.77
Not Enough Books: 490.82
Xe Leptfromcoma: 484.75
Thieving Magpies: 10
Geography Trilost: 5

Lavender Scavengers: You made us laugh so many times, from your beautiful seven-minute slo-mo run around Trinity\’s Main Court to Souradip\’s teaching the Time Warp to a stranger despite not knowing it himself, to your delightful Adventure Time cover and coming tantalisingly close to dead dropping Michael French. Bravo, congratulations on the win, and now it\’s your turn…

Not Enough Books: We suspect that you might, in fact, have had enough books. The 41 Discworld novels was something we\’d been hoping to see (and you gave Roisin a new profile picture, so kudos for that),  you get major points for style for breaking the Scavenger Hunt, and I\’m sure my sister will really appreciate the gift of 12 different flavours of lubricant (in delightful pink wrapping!)…

Xe Leptfromcoma: We liked your romantic picnic with a bike, your sycophantic poetry, Goonvile and Cayus and your continued insistence that your plant was a person. You fought hard, and we hope that the bonds of friendship you formed during the hunt last long into the future.

Thieving Magpies: I liked your sign-up email, and just wish we\’d met you.

Geography Trilost: You seemed so keen on Saturday morning, being the first to turn in an item, and rushing off to the UL to find points. Unfortunately, you were never seen again… And a quirk of the scoring system puts you behind even the team that didn\’t turn up, which is sad.

Thank you everyone who participated, we had a whale of a time. Join the Lavender Scavengers next year when (hopefully) they\’ll be running the 2017 Hunt. Now, if you\’ll excuse us, we have about 283 jelly beans to eat.

It Begins!

Hail, Scavengers! The list is up – https://www.dropbox.com/s/0a2pet9poyraupu/list.pdf?dl=0 – and we have physical copies available wherever there are judges. Which, at present is St. Catharines\’ College bar. Come. Bring us items. Dazzle us with your creativity and pizzazz.

EDIT: We\’ve moved: Now in Woodlark 3, Catz. (Up the stairs to the left as you enter the college.)

EDIT: Time for the judges to go for dinner. We\’ll be back at 7! (Still in Woodlark 3.)

EDIT: Right, we\’re going to call it a night, kids. See you tomorrow, 12pm, Woodlark 3! xoxo

EDIT ONCE MORE AGAIN: And we\’re back online! Woodlark 3, here until nine (possibly with another break for dinner, we\’ll see), please bring us things. And we\’re adding an item to the lists, in the interest of charity: we\’re offering 25 points if you raise £15 or more in sponsorship and donations.

It\’s Tomorrow!

Howdy, scavengers!

Tomorrow morning beginneth the fun, kids. We will be waiting outside Great St. Mary\’s Church at 9am tomorrow with physical copies of the list (which will go up on the website shortly after). We\’ll be there until 10, at which point we will move… somewhere. Probably the bar in St. Catharine\’s College, but we will keep you updated via Twitter (@CUSH2016) and Facebook on where we are during the day.

It\’s so not too late to sign up, for anyone who wants to partake, and we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

The Final Results

Since the hunt finished an hour ago, the judges have been considering the last e-submissions, adding up the scores, and checking and re-checking them.

Today has seen dramatic changes of fortune. At the beginning of the day there were three teams that seemed to be in with a good chance of winning. A late entry from one-man-superteam FBM briefly shook things up, and when the Masters of the Lint tripled their score in a single visit it was clear there was still everything to play for.

But two teams put on impressive late surges. With one hour to go until the end of the competition there was just 0.76 points between Team Anonymous A and Flattus Rattus. Team Anonymous A brought a final flurry of late items, including an especially beautiful Marauder\’s Map of Selwyn, and at 9 PM the judges\’ spreadsheet had them in the lead.

But a final check of the CUSH gmail account revealed an 862 MB zip file from Flattus Rattus sent at 8:57 PM! Once these, including the amazing \”Dumb ways to die – Jelly Edition\”, were added on, Flattus Rattus had edged ahead.

Final scores
The Bermuda Pentagon: 0
Anonymous C: 0
Anonymous D: 0
FBM: 69.5
Masters of the lint: 443.23
Anonymous A: 625.90
Flattus Rattus: 687.17

We would like to thank all the teams,

FBM – for the team with the least members, and the shortest participation time, you punched well above your weight. We\’ve never seen a pint consumed that quickly. Congrats!

The Bermuda Pentagon – you had the best name, it would have been even better if you had brought us some items!

Anonymous A – You came so very close, both to achieving an astonishing new Guiness World Record (for the most peas eaten with a cocktail stick in 5 minutes), and to winning the entire hunt. Thanks for your sterling efforts in the Treasure Hunt in the face of great adversity.

Flattus Rattus – You made us laugh again and again with your videos (we hope you have recovered from the onion-induced heartburn!), your array of costumes and your ingenuity in jelly baby genocide.

Anonymous C and D – you were the first sign-ups and you really lived up to your name by remaining anonymous, and unseen, throughout the entire hunt so well done on that.

The Masters of the Lint – Your feats of physical exertion, from a minute\’s headstand to reaching 8 of Cambridge\’s 9 co-ops, were deeply impressive. You also brought us someone who was really very tall, and our favourite David Attenborough documentary.

It\’s been a joy to see the amazingly inventive items you have all brought to us over the last 36 hours. The competition has really been intense with the lead shifting again and again over the final hours. Thanks for all your dedication, imagination and enthusiasm.

We\’re going to be in the Fort St. George from 8 PM on Sunday night to recuperate after the excitement of the hunt. Please do join us for this pub-meet if you can. (Drop us an email at cuscavenger2015@gmail.com if you plan to, please).

All the best for the summer!
